Supportive Housing for Youth: Bridging the Gap to Adulthood
At Cascade Youth & Family Center (CYFC), we are committed to addressing one of Central Oregon’s most pressing issues: housing for young adults. The housing crisis has created significant challenges, particularly for youth striving to become independent. For young people ages 16 to 24, who are often navigating complex barriers such as aging out of foster care or experiencing homelessness, the path to self-sufficiency can be even more difficult.
In response, CYFC has launched a new housing program that offers a stable living environment for youth who need more independence but still benefit from daily case management and support. This program is open to young people from all backgrounds, including those who have not previously lived in our youth shelters—The LOFT, Grandma’s House, or Canal House.
Our new housing option empowers youth to live independently while pursuing their education and gaining work experience. Whether it serves as a next step after living in one of our shelters or as a first step for others, this program provides critical resources to help young adults build the skills they need to transition successfully into adulthood.
J Bar J Youth Services, our parent organization, plays a key role in regional efforts to prevent and end youth homelessness. Working collaboratively with partners such as the Homeless Leadership Coalition and others, we are part of a collective effort to provide stable housing options for young people throughout Central Oregon. Our goal is to give every youth the tools, support, and encouragement they need to thrive as they step into the next chapter of their lives.
For youth to be considered for any of our housing opportunities they will need to be in the Coordinated Entry System. Coordinated entry is a consistent, community-wide intake process to match people experiencing homelessness to existing community resources that are best fit for their situation.
